What is the real cause of Sushma Swaraj’s sad demise?

One more precious life gone too soon – Rest in peace Sushma Swaraj, an astute politician respected across political divides.

Every news article about her sad demise records the cause as heart attack and that immediately needs no further explanation and gets attributed to fate. We can’t be more wrong here! Diabetes had affected her kidneys and eventually led to a cardiac event which took her life. Research has shown that people with diabetes have a higher risk of developing heart disease and a greater chance of a heart attack or a stroke. Diabetes is linked to an increased risk of sudden cardiac arrest.

Could this have been avoided? Type 2 diabetes doesn’t develop overnight. In this day and age of desk jobs, processed food, and fast lifestyles how can you avoid getting into this trap? Know more and check your own risk of developing diabetes.  Also, do you know how abdominal fat is linked to the risk of diabetes? If your worries are limited to not fitting into your old jeans think again!

Needless to mention the role stress plays in the onset and progression of these new-age epidemics like diabetes and hypertension. While leading four decades of public life would have taken its toll on her health, there are millions of us fighting our daily battles, not even realizing what has been won was at the cost of surrendering to the stress of the fight!

To a regular healthy young person Diabetes only sounds like a disease that doesn’t allow you to eat sweets or eat freely the foods that you like. We don’t think too much into this. Also, very often it is not about a person not being able to detect it in time (unlike cancer for example) or afford treatment. We know for a fact that if anyone could afford all the treatment in the world to fight this illness Sushma Swaraj would be the first!

Take small steps today for your health and take control of your body before it is too late. It is the only place you live in!
